“Pre-primary schooling is our children’s educational foundation – every stage of education that follows relies on its success.”

Most children in these villages are faced with significant challenges, including low self-esteem, poor grades, absenteeism from school, and low school enrolment that negatively impact their studies and ability to compete with students in other regions and Ghana’s major cities. Additionally, the children’s clothes, school fees, uniforms, and school supplies (backpacks, textbooks, writing utensils, etc.) are either inadequately supplied or absent. This is due to their parents’ insufficient household income or complete lack thereof.

Most of the family are into subsistence farming which is woefully inadequate to feed their families and take care of their children’s school’s expenses.

In view of this, most children do not have the opportunity to attend school and enjoy the future benefits that receiving an education can bring them and their families. Students who are fortunate enough to enroll in school sometimes must drop out to support their families’ farming efforts, leading to increasing numbers of drop-outs who do not have employable skills to earn an adequate income. This fuels the poverty cycle, dimming the prospects of brighter futures for these students, their families,

DGF’s "Play To Learn Project" will be implemented in all schools in Ghana with its target being students in primary school within the ages of 5 to 14 years. These are formative years to attract kids to school and make the school work engaging to the students.

The project was introduced by Percy Sackey who is also the Director of DANCEGOD FOUNDATION. Popularly known as the "Dancing teacher", Percy is a dedicated teacher who works with students in Obo-Kwahu in areas of creative arts to help them identify their talents and to promote child education. Percy’s approach is leading by engaging, rather than by instructing, directing, frightening or punishing. He believes this approach encourages the kids into school and once they are enrolled, other areas of study will follow.
